On the 2nd of February, the unthinkable happened to one of our customers. Their motorhome was stolen from outside of their home address in Birmingham.

Luckily for the customer, they had previously visited Enhance to have a Thatcham Approved Cat 7 SmartTrack Trident installed. The SmarTrack Tracker operates using GPS/Glonass, GPRS and GSM technology. It uses an internal battery backup so that the device can remain operational even when the vehicle’s power supply has been removed. It has an optional alarm input so that the tracking company can alert you if your alarm has been triggered.

DVLA data revealed that in 2022, 58,082 vehicles were stolen, that’s an average of 159 vehicles every day and 1,117 a week. It’s becoming vital for drivers to have an alarm installed in their vehicles!

Below is some vehicle recovery data collected by the SmarTrack monitoring centre, also known as Global Telemetrics. As you can see, their solutions are extremely effective!

Thatcham Approved Trackers send an instant alert if they detect any unauthorised use or if someone tries to tamper with the device. These alerts are then received by the control centre, who will then contact you to confirm if it was authorised or unauthorised use. If you then confirm your vehicle as stolen, the control Centre will monitor the location of the vehicle, whilst liaising with local authorities to ensure a swift and fast recovery of your vehicle. Below are the steps to take, as advised by Global Telemetrics:

In the event of a standard theft of an asset the following process will occur:

1 – The customer will report their vehicle stolen on our dedicated theft line. Or Global Telemetrics will ring the customer to make them aware of one of the alerts that our system generates (vehicle moving without ignition, battery disconnected, Driver Detection not present)
2 – If not already obtained, the customer will be advised to ring the police and obtain a crime reference number
3 – Global Telemetrics work with our agents who work alongside the police to secure your asset. Upon receipt of the crime reference number, agents will attend the location of your vehicle
4 – As a safety precaution, upon notifying Global Telemetrics of a theft, access to your tracking data is temporarily disabled. We will keep the owner informed of any updates so they can rest assured everything is in hand. Global Telemetrics will not provide customers with an exact location of the asset to avoid an unintentional endangerment of life
5 – When the vehicle is secured, Global Telemetrics will call the customer to confirm that the vehicle is safe
6 – The police will arrange with the customer collection of the vehicle either from its location or after recovery and forensic examination

As detailed above, the customer contacted the SmarTrack Repatriations Team, reported that the vehicle had been stolen and passed along a crime reference number. Within 6 minutes, the SmarTrack Repatriations Team used the installed tracker to recover the vehicle!

Global Telemetrics works closely with the police to be able to recover stolen vehicles as quickly as possible. They also monitor your vehicle 24/7 for any potential unusual activity.
